On November 5, 2024, Tanzanian authorities clarified the situation regarding the current entry rules and the proposed abolition of visa on arrival for foreign nationals on January 30, 2025. Currently, travelers from countries who need a visa to enter Tanzania under the simplified procedure have two options: obtain an electronic visa (e-Visa) online or apply for a visa on arrival, which has not yet been abolished. At the same time, the United Republic of Tanzania Department of Immigration plans to suspend the issuance of visas on arrival by November 30, 2024 to focus on improving the electronic visa application service (E-Visa) and make it more efficient.

Tanzanian authorities strongly recommend applying for e-Visa in advance to significantly speed up the entry process by minimizing waiting time at passport control.

Today, the electronic e-Visa can be conveniently issued online. It is issued for up to 90 days and allows you to visit Tanzania and Zanzibar for tourism and business purposes, private visits or short-term educational programs.

Please note that as of October 1, 2024, all foreign nationals are required to obtain additional health insurance for travel to Zanzibar. This policy is provided exclusively by the local insurance company, Zanzibar Insurance Corporation, and ensures adequate coverage for all visitors throughout their stay on the island.
