What to visit in the Maldives?

Baa Atoll

It used to be a place where mariners seeking shelter fell victim to shipwrecks. Now it is an attractive destination for fishermen, divers and windsurfers. The atoll consists of 72 islands, but only 13 of them are inhabited. The atoll is also home to a large nature reserve, Hanifaru Bay, which attracts underwater enthusiasts.

Dhaalu Atoll

This atoll is still little explored, so you can enjoy the pristine tropical nature here. There are only two hotels on the islands, offering comfortable holidays. Snorkelling, diving, giant tortoises and cycling safaris are all available.

South Male Atoll

This atoll is famous for its pristine white sand beaches and magnificent views. It comprises 30 islands, of which 17 are reserved for tourists, on which luxury hotels have been built. It is a great place for fishing, secluded holidays and diving and surfing.

Presidential Palace

This historic structure was built by the last sultan and now serves as the residence of the country's president. Visitors can see the colonial architecture of the palace and a beautiful park with blooming roses.

This is the capital of the Maldives and the place to start exploring the archipelago. There are many cultural attractions, such as the Islamic Centre, the largest Islamic mosque in Asia; the National Museum, which provides an insight into the country's history and culture; the Sultan's Park; the National Art Gallery; the Tsunami Monument; and the Fish Market.

This mosque, built in the 17th century, surprises with its architecture and details. Made of coral stone, it is richly decorated inside and has historical significance. This mosque and its surroundings are an architectural monument. To visit the mosque, you must obtain a permit from the Religious Affairs Department.
