Starting October 1, 2024, Zanzibar is introducing a new document for travelers. All foreign tourists visiting the island are now required to take out additional local health insurance from Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC). This requirement applies to foreign nationals of all countries, including European countries, including Germany.

The ZIC medical policy must be taken out in advance of travel to the country with 92 days coverage, which should cover not only medical expenses and repatriation in the event of death, but also accidents, delays, stolen luggage and personal liability.

It is important to note that having other medical insurance taken out before traveling does not exempt travelers from having to purchase this policy.

Zanzibar insurance policy can be issued through the official portal of Zanzibar Insurance Corporation, as well as through our visa service by ordering the service online. The policy is available for individual travelers, families of 3 to 9 people, and groups of 10 people or more, including children under 18 years of age. The document received will need to be printed and taken with you on your trip to be presented at the Zanzibar border checkpoint.
