You must apply for a residence permit at the Migration Agency of Mongolia within 21 days of entry if you are entering on a short-term private visa.

You must also apply for a residence permit if your intended stay is more than 180 days within a year.

If you are found to have forged documents or obtained a visa through a false application, you can reapply after 180 days, and if denied for other reasons, you can reapply after 30 days.

What documents do I need to apply for a private visa to Mongolia?

Official letter of invitation

it must specify the purpose and duration of stay, the point of obtaining a visa

Copy of the inviting person's identity card

Copy of the applicant's main passport

Copy of travel passport

must be valid for at least 180 days prior to intended travel to Mongolia

Receipt for payment of state duty

A document confirming the private purpose of the trip is also required:

  • Certificate of registration of marriage, birth, adoption by a Mongolian citizen.
  • Copy of birth certificate, identity card or other document confirming Mongolian citizenship.
  • Certificate confirming that the foreign citizen has made an outstanding contribution to the development of Mongolia, obtained a profession or specialty in high demand in Mongolia, achieved great success in any field of science.
  • Official request of the inviting party.

A foreign national who has a passport valid for at least 12 months can obtain a residence permit or entry visa for personal or business purposes. At the same time, a person whose passport is valid for at least 6 months may extend the permit for further stay for personal and business purposes.
