Visa for Mongolia

A visa is required to visit Mongolia unless you are a citizen of one of the visa exempt countries. Citizens of some countries can obtain a visa on arrival or e-visa online, while others must obtain a visa from the Mongolian Embassy. Passports valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival are required.

Citizens of all countries planning to stay in Mongolia for more than 30 days must register with the Mongolian Immigration Office in Ulaanbaatar within the first seven days of arrival. Citizens who fail to register and stay for more than 30 days, even for reasons beyond their control, will be temporarily detained upon departure and fined.

Citizens of 61 countries are allowed visa-free entry to Mongolia.

Visa-free regime also applies to holders of diplomatic passports of the Czech Republic, Estonia (biometric passports only), France, Italy, Great Britain, as well as holders of diplomatic or official/service passports of Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Brunei, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Chile, China, Colombia, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Mexico, Myanmar, Nepal, North Korea, Peru, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, South Korea, Switzerland, Turkmenistan and Vietnam. Chinese nationals holding passports for public purposes do not require a visa for a maximum stay of up to 30 days. United Nations (UN) entry permit holders and officials of UN specialized agencies coming to Mongolia on business or for permanent residence are exempt from visa requirements for 30 days.

Visa on arrival in Mongolia is available to citizens of 36 countries. No invitations are required to obtain it.

From October 1, 2021, it is now possible for 99 countries to apply for an e-visa to Mongolia.
