Visa on arrival in Kazakhstan

You can apply for a Kazakh visa on arrival if there is no Kazakh embassy in your country, but you still need to get prior approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The process is similar to obtaining an embassy visa and involves two parts:

Your sponsor must apply for a letter of invitation and approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan. You can then travel to Kazakhstan and apply for a visa on arrival. You will need to bring your letter of invitation, MFA approval and other documents related to the purpose of your trip.

You can obtain a Kazakhstan visa on arrival only at the following airports:

  • Aktau Airport
  • Almaty International Airport
  • Atyrau Airport
  • Oral Ak Zhol Airport
  • Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport

Notification of stay in Kazakhstan

From January 10, 2020, it is the responsibility of the host person or hotel to notify the immigration authorities of the arrival of a foreigner. Notification of a foreigner's stay in Kazakhstan is mandatory and must be submitted within 3 working days of entry. This requirement applies regardless of the order of entry, duration of stay and purpose of the visit.

The notification must be submitted by the inviting person (receiving party) to the Migration Service through the Visa and Migration Office. It is also necessary to notify the migration service in case of:

  • change of address within the city, traveling to another city of Kazakhstan.
  • Failure to submit the notification in time entails administrative responsibility on the part of the receiving party.

In some cases, citizens of the Commonwealth of Independent States (including the Eurasian Economic Union) may need to obtain a temporary residence permit (TPR) upon arrival in Kazakhstan. For this purpose, the receiving party must submit a petition (application) to the Population Service Center.

A temporary residence permit is not required in the following cases:

  • Citizens of the Eurasian Economic Union, Azerbaijan and Tajikistan, provided they stay in Kazakhstan for up to 90 calendar days.
  • Children under 16 years of age.
  • Holders of Kazakhstani visas.

Invitation to Kazakhstan (Visa Support Documents)

Citizens of countries that require a visa to visit the Republic of Kazakhstan are issued visas by consular offices of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the basis of visa support. Visa support is an official invitation issued by the migration police authorities of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Citizens of countries where there is no official diplomatic representation of the Republic of Kazakhstan can obtain a visa at the airport of arrival in the Republic of Kazakhstan, if they have visa support and consular service operates at the airport.

Citizens of Jordan do not require visa support. Single-entry tourist visa for Jordanian citizens is issued on the basis of personal application (petition) to the consular offices of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
