To enter the Republic of Kazakhstan, foreigners need to obtain a visa.
A visa to the Republic of Kazakhstan is a mark that is placed by the authorized state bodies of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the migrant's passport or in a document replacing it. Also, it can be marked in the information system, which grants the right to enter the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan, travel through its territory, stay there and leave the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The visa establishes the conditions and purposes of stay that must be met.

What visas are there for Kazakhstan?
single-entry and multiple-entry permits valid for up to 90 days, with the right to stay up to 30 days per entry
single-entry with a validity period of up to 90 days, with a right of stay from 30 to 90 days depending on the purpose of entry, multiple-entry with a validity period from 180 days to 1 year with a right of stay from 30 to 90 days at each entry depending on the purpose of entry.

Do I need a visa to Kazakhstan?
From January 1, 2022 the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan will resume 30-day visa-free regime for citizens of the following countries:
Citizens of these countries have the opportunity to stay in Kazakhstan without a visa for 30 calendar days during each visit. The number of such visits is not limited. However, the total duration of such visits should not exceed 90 calendar days within a 180-day period.
Under the visa-free regime, foreign citizens have the opportunity to visit Kazakhstan for tourist, private and short-term business purposes. Within the framework of business trips, meetings and negotiations, conclusion of contracts, as well as participation in conferences and forums are allowed.
However, during visa-free travel, foreigners are prohibited from engaging in labor or other paid activities in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan. This also includes installation and repair work, consulting and auditing services, and training sessions. A visa is required for such activities.
Since July 7, 2022, Kazakhstan has a visa-free regime for citizens of India, Iran and China. Citizens of these countries may stay in Kazakhstan without a visa for up to 14 calendar days for business, private and tourist purposes. The total period of stay in Kazakhstan without a visa should not exceed 42 days within a 180-day period. Violation of this condition may result in the imposition of fines and sanctions on foreign citizens, including deportation from the country and a ban on entry to Kazakhstan for 5 years.
How to get a visa to Kazakhstan?
There are several ways to obtain a visa to Kazakhstan:
- Online, through the eVisa Kazakhstan portal. Citizens of over 100 countries can apply for a tourist, business or medical eVisa to Kazakhstan.
- At the Embassy of Kazakhstan in your country. Prior approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is required.
- When arriving at an airport in Kazakhstan. Prior approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also required.

Electronic visa to Kazakhstan
Electronic visa (business, tourist and medical) is issued from April 1, 2019 on the basis of an official invitation from the Kazakhstani side, received in accordance with the requirements of the Migration Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Foreign citizens may enter/exit to/from the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan using a valid e-visa only through checkpoints of international airports of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Who can issue e-visa to the Republic of Kazakhstan?
Visa on arrival in Kazakhstan
You can apply for a Kazakh visa on arrival if there is no Kazakh embassy in your country, but you still need to get prior approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The process is similar to obtaining an embassy visa and involves two parts:
Your sponsor must apply for a letter of invitation and approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan. You can then travel to Kazakhstan and apply for a visa on arrival. You will need to bring your letter of invitation, MFA approval and other documents related to the purpose of your trip.
You can obtain a Kazakhstan visa on arrival only at the following airports:
- Aktau Airport
- Almaty International Airport
- Atyrau Airport
- Oral Ak Zhol Airport
- Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport
Notification of stay in Kazakhstan
From January 10, 2020, it is the responsibility of the host person or hotel to notify the immigration authorities of the arrival of a foreigner. Notification of a foreigner's stay in Kazakhstan is mandatory and must be submitted within 3 working days of entry. This requirement applies regardless of the order of entry, duration of stay and purpose of the visit.
The notification must be submitted by the inviting person (receiving party) to the Migration Service through the Visa and Migration Office. It is also necessary to notify the migration service in case of:
- change of address within the city, traveling to another city of Kazakhstan.
- Failure to submit the notification in time entails administrative responsibility on the part of the receiving party.
In some cases, citizens of the Commonwealth of Independent States (including the Eurasian Economic Union) may need to obtain a temporary residence permit (TPR) upon arrival in Kazakhstan. For this purpose, the receiving party must submit a petition (application) to the Population Service Center.
A temporary residence permit is not required in the following cases:
- Citizens of the Eurasian Economic Union, Azerbaijan and Tajikistan, provided they stay in Kazakhstan for up to 90 calendar days.
- Children under 16 years of age.
- Holders of Kazakhstani visas.
Invitation to Kazakhstan (Visa Support Documents)
Citizens of countries that require a visa to visit the Republic of Kazakhstan are issued visas by consular offices of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the basis of visa support. Visa support is an official invitation issued by the migration police authorities of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Citizens of countries where there is no official diplomatic representation of the Republic of Kazakhstan can obtain a visa at the airport of arrival in the Republic of Kazakhstan, if they have visa support and consular service operates at the airport.
Citizens of Jordan do not require visa support. Single-entry tourist visa for Jordanian citizens is issued on the basis of personal application (petition) to the consular offices of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
