Important changes in U.S. visa policy: new rules for applying for nonimmigrant visas

04.04.2025
Chicago, United States of America

Beginning April 2025, new rules regarding U.S. nonimmigrant visa applications go into effect. All applicants are now required to provide a printed copy of the barcoded confirmation page, which will confirm the use of the same Form DS-160 when scheduling an interview.

Importantly, the barcode number listed on the Form DS-160 must match exactly the number used in the interview appointment. If discrepancies are found, such as an incorrect or incomplete form, applicants may face denial. In this case, they will have to re-fill the DS-160 form with the correct barcode number and reschedule the interview date.

Also beginning in April, the application process will include a mandatory digital upload of all supporting documents at least 72 hours prior to the interview. This innovation is aimed at simplifying the process and reducing last-minute applications.

The new rules are expected to help speed up the processing of applications, reduce last-minute errors and rejections, and ensure a more serious approach from applicants, who will have to thoroughly prepare all required documents before the interview.

These changes emphasize the U.S. authorities' commitment to improving the visa issuance system and increasing its efficiency. Applicants are advised to familiarize themselves with the new requirements in advance and prepare for the application process.
