As part of its updated visa policy, Thailand is introducing an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system in December 2024. The new system will be valid for foreign nationals from 93 countries who were previously allowed visa-free entry into the country.

The ETA permit program aims to improve security and streamline the immigration control process. The introduction of the e-permit system will simplify entry into the country and speed up immigration formalities through a convenient automated electronic badge system.

ETA's e-permit system of the year is expected to be fully integrated with Thailand's unified electronic visa (e-Visa) system by June 2025, creating a single portal for entry applications.

Thus, travelers from the following countries arriving in Thailand by air, land or sea without a visa will require an ETA permit:

Albania
Argentina
Armenia
Australia
Austria
Bahrain
Belarus
Belgium
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Brazil
Brunei Darussalam
Bulgaria
Canada
Chile
China
Colombia
Costa Rica
Croatia
Cyprus
Czech Republic
Denmark
Dominican Republic
Ecuador
El Salvador
Estonia
Finland
France
Georgia
Germany
Greece
Guatemala
Honduras
Hong Kong
Hungary
Iceland
India
Indonesia
Ireland
Israel
Italy
Japan

Unlike some other countries that have already introduced a similar online authorization system, Thailand's ETA permit will require a new approval for each trip.

Each ETA permit will be valid for 60 days with the possibility of a one-time extension for an additional 30 days.

The Thai government, in turn, will provide timely updates on all details of the ETA e-permit as the system goes live.
