Thailand launches new long-term Destination Thailand Visa for digital nomads

At the end of May 2024, the Thai government announced a new visa policy that, among other things, aims to modernize the “digital nomad” visa and attract foreign nationals to the country to boost the country's economic and tourism development. The new DTV visa is a great opportunity for those who value freedom and a flexible lifestyle.

The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) is valid for five years and entitles its holders to legally work remotely and reside in Thailand.

Who can apply for a Destination Thailand Visa?

  • Freelancers, remote workers and digital nomads who are not tied to a single workplace and have the ability to work from anywhere in the world and combine work with travel.
  • Travelers seeking new cultural experiences for specific interests, such as learning martial arts, attending courses, events, seminars and trainings in various fields, as well as music and art exhibitions.
  • Highly skilled professionals ready to contribute to Thailand's economy and local industry.
  • Family members: The DTV visa allows for the inclusion of family members as legal spouses and children under the age of 20 are eligible for this visa.

Full details of the draft and final rules for this type of visa are expected in late June/early July 2024.

What is known about the visa to date?

  • Validity Period: Destination Thailand Visa visa is valid for five years.
  • Period of stay: The visa allows you to stay in Thailand for a maximum of 180 days per year.
  • Renewal: Renewal can be issued once for a maximum of 180 days without leaving the country. Additional visa fee to be paid is 10,000 Baht.
  • Age Limitations: The minimum age for the applicant is 20 years old.
  • Financial Requirements: You must provide financial documents proving your ability to pay for the entire period of your stay in Thailand and have at least 500,000 Baht in your account.
