Do you need an e-visa for Thailand?
In 2018, Thai authorities introduced a new visa program that provides applicants with the ability to obtain e-visas exclusively online, thus eliminating the need to visit an embassy or consulate in person to apply or wait in line to receive a visa on arrival.
Today, more than 20 nationalities from around the world are required to have an approved eVisa to enter Thailand. The Thai eVisa online visa grants a single right of entry for tourist purposes for a period of up to 30 days. Once approved, the eVisa remains valid for 30 days from the date of entry into Thailand.
To apply for a Thai e-visa, you need to fill out a simple online form by providing your personal, passport and travel details. The following images are required to upload to submit the application:
Passport biography page
Passport cover page
Entry and exit tickets
Proof of residence in Thailand
The validity of the applicant's passport must be at least 30 days from the expected date of arrival in Thailand, and it must also have at least one blank page.
Once the e-visa for Thailand is approved, it will be emailed to the applicant. Visitors are advised to print a hard copy of this visa as it may be required upon arrival.
To be sure, applicants are advised to submit their e-visa application at least 5 working days prior to their scheduled arrival date to allow sufficient time for processing.
Those citizens who plan to spend more time in Thailand or visit the country for other purposes, such as study or work, are required to obtain the appropriate visa through the embassy.
For citizens of the following countries, an electronic visa to Thailand is required allowing entry through certain airports:
Papua New Guinea
Republic of Cyprus
An electronic visa to Thailand is available for holders of selected nationalities, allowing entry through certain airports:
Don Muang (DMK)
Chiang Mai (CNX)
However, it should be noted that the e-visa does not cover entry through sea and land border crossings. Citizens who are eligible for an e-visa are advised to apply for another type of visa through the embassy if they plan to travel to Thailand through a sea or land border crossing.
Please note that as of September 26, 2021, e-visa applicants are no longer required to appear in person at the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate to present their passport and original required documents. Once the e-visa application is approved, applicants will be sent a confirmation via email. We recommend that you print out a copy of this e-mail confirmation to present to airline staff and Thai immigration officials for verification during your travel to Thailand.
We will contact you as soon as possible.
