Cuban authorities announced that the electronic visa system for Cuba (e-Visa) announced for 2025 officially launched on August 1, 2024.

The introduction of the e-Visa is a significant step for Cuba to simplify and streamline the entry process for foreign tourists, as well as to strengthen border security.

It is also great news for travelers and fans of the country. A visa to Cuba can now be obtained online, bypassing complicated bureaucratic procedures and the need to visit a Cuban consular office.

What is already known about the e-Visa process?

Full transition to electronic visa

According to the information provided, Cuba plans to replace the traditional tourist card with a new online visa procedure in the near future. However, the mandatory transition to electronic visas is only announced for 2025.

Retention of the paper tourist card

Currently, tourists can still use the traditional “Tarjeta del Turista”, a green or pink colored paper card (depending on nationality). This tourist card continues to be a valid and necessary document to enter the country for up to 90 days. It can be obtained from the Cuban Embassy in Germany, from air carriers at airports, and from commercial intermediary websites.

Important: foreign nationals arriving in Cuba by sea must still go to the Cuban consulate to obtain a visa.

Online application process

To obtain an electronic visa (e-Visa), applicants must complete an online application in English, Spanish or French. The application process requires personal information, including passport information, and a valid e-mail address to which a visa code will be sent. The e-Visa is linked to the applicant's passport, making it a more convenient option for travelers. Once an e-Visa has been successfully processed, applicants can always check the status and expiration date of their online.

Timeframe for e-Visa processing and validity

An e-Visa is issued for up to 90 days with a single entry option. It is possible to extend the visa for an additional 90 days. The stated processing time for visa requests is 72 working hours, however this may vary depending on circumstances.
