Cuba switches to electronic visas from July 1, 2025

As of June 30, 2025, Cuba will abolish the long-term tourist card (Tarjeta del Turista). Instead of the usual card, visits to the country will now require an electronic visa (e-Visa). This decision aims to simplify the entry process and improve border controls to make traveling to Cuba convenient and efficient for tourists.
The e-Visa was introduced in test mode in 2024 and is now ready for full launch. As of July 1, 2025, all international travelers, with the exception of Canadian citizens, will be required to obtain an e-Visa before traveling to Cuba.
Travelers will need to apply online to obtain an e-Visa. The visa will be issued as a single-entry visa and will allow up to 90 days in Cuba with the option to extend for another 90 days, bringing the total time in the country to 180 days.
It is important to note that the following documents will be required to enter the island:
- A passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry;
- An electronic visa and a completed D'Viajeros form with a QR code;
- Proof of travel insurance with medical coverage;
- Round-trip ticket.
The introduction of the Cuban e-visa is a significant step towards digitizing the visa process and reducing paperwork. This initiative not only improves border control efficiency, but also streamlines administrative procedures, making travel to Cuba more accessible to tourists from all over the world.
