Cuban authorities have announced the postponement of the full transition to an electronic visa system for another six months, until June 30, 2025. It was previously planned that the country would fully switch to electronic visa issuance by that time, but now tourists can continue to use traditional tourist cards “Tarjeta del Turista” until the middle of next year.

The six-month postponement is particularly important for tourists and the travel industry. The introduction of e-visas is a major change to the process of entering Cuba. E-visas are designed to make paperwork more convenient and faster, but full implementation requires additional preparations by both Cuban authorities, tour operators and travelers.

  • Additional time for travelers: those who have already purchased a tourist card will be able to use it to enter Cuba until June 30, 2025. This avoids the rush to adapt to the new rules and will ensure a smooth transition to the new system.
  • Convenience for the tourism industry: tour operators and travel agencies have more time to exhaust their stocks of tourist cards and to prepare for the introduction of electronic visas. This means that the transition to the new system will be more flexible, minimizing possible disruptions and inconveniences.

What should travelers do?

If you have a valid tourist card, it can be used to enter Cuba until the end of June 2025. In the meantime, new travelers can also apply for e-visas, available through Cuba's official online platform. It is important to keep an eye on visa requirements in advance, as regulations may change as the date of the final switch to e-visas approaches.

In addition, Cuban authorities have updated the D'VIAJEROS digital platform, which allows travel information to be entered seven days prior to arrival. These changes show Cuba's commitment to smooth and gradual digitalization, allowing tourists to adapt to the new requirements without stress or hassle.
