When traveling to Iran, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with the visa policy in advance in order to obtain a visa. Iran has its own requirements and procedures for different types of visas. Check the requirements for your country and prepare all the necessary documents to obtain a visa.

Iran visa

Understanding the visa requirements and application process is key to a successful and worry-free trip to Iran. A visa to Iran may be required for various purposes including tourism, business meetings, work, study, medical and others. Each type of visa has its own requirements and restrictions, so it is important to research all the necessary conditions before applying for a visa. For example, for a tourist visa, you may need a hotel reservation confirmation, itinerary or invitation letter from an Iranian travel agency.

Iran does not have diplomatic relations with Israel. Therefore, Israeli citizens are denied visas to travel to Iran. Also, passport holders with an Israeli visa or stamp within the last 12 months may be denied entry to Iran.

Do I need a visa to Iran?

Most citizens, including citizens of the United States, Canada, the EU and many other countries, are required to obtain a visa before traveling to Iran. According to Iran's visa regulations, there are three possible ways to obtain a visa: visa on arrival, application at an Iranian embassy or consulate, and online visa. But not all visa types are available for each of these methods of obtaining a visa.

However, there are a few countries whose citizens are exempted from this requirement. Citizens of 16 countries do not need a visa to visit Iran. They can stay in the country for a certain period of time, usually from 14 to 90 days, depending on their citizenship. They only need a passport to enter the country, which will be checked upon entry into Iran. This is convenient and flexible for tourists and business travelers who visit Iran from these countries. The visa-free regime helps strengthen tourism and business ties between Iran and countries whose citizens do not require a visa.

Citizens of the following countries have the right to enter and stay in Iran without a visa:

90 days

Armenia, Syria, Turkey

45 days

Georgia, Iraq

30 days

Azerbaijan, Bolivia, Lebanon, Oman

20 days

China, Egypt, Hong Kong, Macao

14 days

Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Venezuela

Obtaining a visa on arrival in Iran

When arriving at the airport in Iran, citizens of certain countries will be able to go through the visa processing procedure at the arrival desk. This option is available only for certain travel purposes - tourism and business visits. You will need to present your passport and other required documents. The visa entry fee must be paid in cash, so it is important to have sufficient Iranian rials. After paying the fee, you will be issued a visa sticker on your passport, allowing you to stay in Iran for up to 30 days. If you need to extend your stay, you can apply for a visa extension for another 30 days at the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Even if it is possible to obtain a visa on arrival, it is advisable to obtain a visa in advance to avoid problems at the border.

Visa on arrival can only be issued at major international airports in Iran. You cannot obtain a visa on arrival at land borders. This means that if you are entering Iran through a land border, you need to apply for a visa in advance at the nearest Iranian consulate or embassy in your country. This is important to keep in mind when planning your trip to Iran to avoid any unforeseen situations and delays in crossing the border.

Obtaining a visa at an Iranian embassy or consulate

Countries that cannot obtain an Iranian visa on arrival must obtain a visa in advance from the Iranian Embassy. To obtain a visa to Iran, you must first have an invitation letter from an Iranian citizen who will be your sponsor. To obtain a visa to Iran, your friend, relative, company or travel agent who is offering to sponsor you must submit a request to the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). If their request is approved, they will receive a visa code (reference code) which they must give to you. You then need to submit this code to the Iranian embassy or consulate in your country, along with other required documents. Once your documents are verified and validated, you will be issued a visa. It is important to follow all the instructions and requirements of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to successfully obtain your visa.
