Great Wall of China

The Great Wall of China is an impressive landmark of China, a majestic monument of antiquity and the longest structure in the world built for defense purposes. The length of the wall is almost 9 thousand kilometers, and taking into account all the bends and turns, its length reaches about 21 thousand kilometers. At a time when the state was still an undivided entity, many kingdoms were being raided by northern nomadic tribes such as the Huns. Therefore, each of these kingdoms began to build defenses made of simple earth, which eventually crumbled and could not handle the attacks of the enemies. As a result of this bad experience, measures were taken to strengthen the wall - stone blocks were used, bonded with a mixture of rice glue and slaked lime. About a fifth of the country's population took part in the construction of this great structure. Today, the Great Wall of China has become a symbol of national pride.

Every year thousands of tourists and pilgrims visit the Potala Palace. The way up the mountain takes a long time, and there is a large terrace of 1,600 square meters at the halfway point. According to historical records, solemn religious ceremonies have been held here since 1653.

Construction of the Forbidden City began in 1406 and lasted 14 years. About a million construction workers and more than a hundred thousand other professionals, including talented artists, stone and wood carvers, were involved in its erection. This magnificent cultural heritage of China has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
