Oman is a beautiful country that is rich in culture, history and spectacular scenery. To maximize the enjoyment of your trip to Oman, it is recommended that you decide in advance on the type of visa you need and familiarize yourself with the relevant requirements for obtaining this visa

Visa to Oman

Like any other country, Oman has visa regulations that must be followed by foreign nationals planning to enter the country. The rules and requirements for obtaining a visa to Oman can vary depending on the purpose of travel, nationality and other factors.

Most foreign nationals are required to apply for a visa to visit Oman. However, there are exceptions for citizens of certain countries who enjoy visa-free travel with Oman and can enter without the need for a visa for a certain period of time.

Oman has now stopped issuing visas on arrival and replaced them with e-visas. It is therefore advisable to apply early, whether the visa is electronic or traditional. But if you are a GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) passport holder, you can obtain a visa on arrival by filling out a paper form at the border.

Do you need a visa to Oman?

Citizens of Gulf countries such as Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar do not require a visa to enter Oman. Citizens of these countries can stay in Oman for 90 days. A passport with a validity of at least 6 months after the intended date of departure is required for entry. This allows citizens of these countries to travel freely and stay in Oman for tourism, business or personal purposes without the need for a visa.

Holders of diplomatic and service passports have the privilege of entering Oman without the need for a visa. This applies to diplomats and those on official visits to the country, and they are entitled to stay up to 90 days on a diplomatic or service passport.

This special privilege applies to holders of diplomatic and official passports of the following countries: Belarus, Cyprus, Germany, Japan, Kazakhstan, Portugal, Romania, Russia, South Korea and Switzerland.

Also, according to Oman's visa policy, certain foreign nationals are allowed to enter Oman if they have a valid visa for the Emirate of Dubai, without having to make a separate application for an Omani visa. This is due to a tourism development agreement between Dubai and the Sultanate of Oman.

A similar agreement exists between Qatar and Oman, which allows some foreign nationals to visit Oman with a valid Qatari visa instead of an Omani visa.

The 14-day visa exemption promotes tourism in Oman, making the country more attractive to visit and easing the entry process for many foreign tourists. However, if you plan to stay in the country for longer than this period or plan to visit Oman for some other purpose, such as work or study, it is necessary to obtain a visa (electronic or traditional) in advance.

The e-visa is available to citizens from approximately 220 countries worldwide, including EU countries, as well as citizens who have either a Gulf residence permit or a valid visa or residence permit from one of the Schengen countries such as Australia, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States.

It is important to note that foreign nationals who cannot apply for an Oman e-visa must obtain an embassy or consular visa. It is recommended that you check the current Oman visa requirements and regulations for your country in a timely manner to ensure that you meet all the necessary requirements.

Our visa agency Visa-Navigator.com specializes in providing professional visa application services for visiting Oman. Whether you are planning a tourist trip, business meeting or work in Oman, we can help you get the visa you need quickly and hassle-free.

Types of visas to Oman

evisa

e-Visa

The Sultanate of Oman introduced an electronic visa (e-Visa) program in 2018 to make the visa application process convenient and faster, without the need to visit an Omani embassy or consulate. An eVisa to Oman is a permit for a short-term stay in this country as a tourist and is available to citizens of around 220 countries, including EU countries. Once the online application is processed, the e-visa is issued in the form of an electronic document within a certain time.

Visas are available as a single-entry visa: for 28 days for GCC residents, 30 days or 3 months, valid for 1 month; as a multiple-entry visa for 30 days, valid for a year and as a 5-day transit visa for GCC residents. It is important to carefully read and understand the terms and conditions associated with your Oman e-visa.

Short-term visa

If you are not eligible for Oman e-visa, you can apply for a traditional visa for short-term travel to the country.

A short-term visa allows you to visit Oman for a limited time for various purposes such as tourism; visiting relatives or friends; business travel, congress, trade shows; attending cultural, scientific, sporting events; educational programs or for short-term employment.

You will need to fill in the appropriate visa application form and provide the necessary documents such as passport, photographs, hotel booking confirmation or invitation from the Omani side and pay the visa fee.

Transit visa

To enter Oman for transit purposes, there are several factors to consider. If you are connecting from one country to another and your stopover time in Oman is less than six hours, you do not require a transit visa.

However, if you have a flight change that will take more than six hours, a transit or tourist visa may be required for you. Each situation is unique and requirements for transit visas may vary depending on your nationality, length of stay, and other factors.

It is important to check with airlines, transit airports and verify visa requirements before you fly out. If you require a transit visa, it is recommended that you apply for an Oman transit visa or Oman tourist visa in advance.

Long-term visa

If your country is exempt from visa requirements, but you plan to stay in Oman for a longer period of time or have temporary, or permanent residency, you must apply for a long-term visa.

It is granted for various purposes such as work, education, business or for family reunification. In some countries, Omani embassies and consulates do not process long-term visas. Applicants instead apply for short-term tourist visas and apply for a residence permit while already in Oman. This procedure may vary depending on the country of residence, nationality and embassy policy.

A long-term visa allows you to enter Oman with the option to apply for a residence permit. You will be able to remain in the country as a potential resident until you apply.

Each visa type may have additional sub-types and requirements depending on the purpose of travel and sponsorship. Ensure that you apply for the appropriate visa type to suit your needs and travel purpose. For more information and specific requirements for each visa type, it is recommended that you contact us.
