Zimbabwe recently updated its visa policy to simplify the entry process for travelers. Nationals who previously had to obtain a visa on arrival now have the option to apply for an e-visa in advance. In conjunction with these changes, the e-visa application portal has been modernized, and a new option has been introduced for obtaining an e-visa on arrival in the form of an electronic travel authorization (eTA). The new version of the e-visa includes a QR code structure to simplify the process.

Foreign nationals from 118 countries, including Germany, can pre-apply for the e-visa before traveling to Zimbabwe. This visa is available for both tourists and those traveling on business.

To apply for an e-visa, nationals of the countries mentioned above can complete an online application 72 hours prior to their travel date. The visa will be issued directly at the point of entry and applicants will receive information on visa validity at the time of application.

To reduce the waiting time upon arrival, travelers can pay for their e-visa online. There is also an option to confirm the application without prepayment, in which case the fee must be paid at the visa application counter on arrival.

Zimbabwe currently offers four varieties of e-visas on arrival:

  1. Single entry e-visa for 1 month.
  2. Double entry e-visa for 3 months.
  3. The e-Visa KAZA Univisa is a single entry visa for 1 month, valid in Zimbabwe and Zambia.
  4. Visitors who do not require a visa to enter Zimbabwe can apply online for “Visa Free Entry” to facilitate the immigration process on arrival.

It is important to understand that having an electronic visa on arrival (eTA) is not a final authorization to enter Zimbabwe. Eligibility for entry will be determined by the Border Guard at the time of crossing the border. It is also worth noting that it is an offense to do any business or work in Zimbabwe without a suitable visa.
