Thailand introduces biometric passenger identification from November 1, 2024

Thailand is introducing a biometric passenger identification system to improve security and travel experience for tourists and locals. The new facial recognition technology will be introduced on domestic flights from November 1, 2024 and on international destinations from December 1, 2024. The biometrics system will appear at Suvarnabhumi, Donmyang, Chiang Mai, Maephaluang (Chiang Rai), Phuket and Hatay airports. Passengers will be able to go through security checks faster and more conveniently thanks to an automated system that recognizes them by face, minimizing the need to check their documents.

This process will reduce the time to check in, avoiding queues and streamlining the process of passing through checkpoints. Biometric check-in will be available both at airport counters and at special automated self-service checkpoints. Passengers will need to register their passports only once, after which identification will be based on biometric data, greatly simplifying the check-in process.

The introduction of biometric identification is part of the modernization of Thailand's airport infrastructure and will boost the tourism appeal of the country, known for its scenic landscapes and cultural heritage. Such changes make traveling easier and safer to meet modern service standards.
