Restoring financial confirmation for a tourist visa to Thailand

Starting in May 2025, Thailand will once again require financial proof for all tourist visa applicants, regardless of their nationality. This decision was made after looking at the current tourism situation and is meant to make sure foreign tourists can travel safely and responsibly.
The country's authorities emphasize that this requirement was temporarily suspended in November 2023 to simplify conditions for travelers, but it has been decided to reinstate it. Now, tourists wishing to visit Thailand must provide financial documents confirming that they have sufficient funds for their stay. The minimum amount that must be confirmed is 20,000 baht, which is approximately equivalent to US$550 or €510, depending on exchange rates.
To prove their financial solvency, applicants can use bank statements for the last three months or sponsorship letters. This requirement is intended to ensure that tourists can cover their expenses during their stay in the country.
Although the reinstatement of financial proof may be an obstacle for some travelers, Thai authorities are confident that these measures will help improve the quality of tourist flows and promote responsible tourism. Ultimately, this should create more comfortable conditions for all participants in the tourism process and strengthen confidence in the country as a safe destination for leisure travel.
