South Korea extends K-ETA temporary exemption program for 1 more year
South Korea is extending the exemption from the K-ETA e-permit until December 31, 2025. The initiative was officially confirmed by the national government as part of the “Visit Korea Year” program, which ran from 2023 to 2024.
The extension of the K-ETA exemption period, which was originally scheduled to end on December 31, 2024, is aimed at boosting tourism by facilitating access to the country for travelers from eligible countries.
K-ETA is a mandatory electronic entry permit for foreign travelers entering South Korea under visa-free travel, which was introduced in 2021.
Citizens of 67 countries previously exempted from the online permit requirement can now visit South Korea without first obtaining K-ETA until the end of 2025.
For travelers from visa-free countries not on the list, K-ETA remains mandatory.
It is worth noting that all foreign nationals who have already issued a K-ETA before the new regulation came into effect can use the permit to enter South Korea until the expiration date (the fee paid is non-refundable).
In addition, travelers from all visa-free countries without exception can apply for an e-permit to simplify entry formalities upon arrival.
