Nigeria simplifies e-visa application process
Nigeria plans to soon simplify the e-Visa application process for short-term stays to encourage foreign investment and tourism development. This was announced by Mrs Kemi Nandap, (Comptroller General of Nigeria's Immigration Service), as she announced the launch of an upgraded e-Visa (short-term electronic visa) application system.
Nigeria is also introducing a project aimed at modernizing border control and improving security. The initiative includes the installation of electronic gates (e-Gate) at the Lagos and Abuja international airports.
The project includes the implementation of effective internal control and monitoring mechanisms that will track the presence and activities of all foreign nationals within the country. In addition, an enhanced Passenger Information System (API) and Passenger Name Record (PNR) will be integrated, which will greatly simplify border control and customs clearance processes.
Nigeria's Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, also disclosed that the Federal Government is actively working on the revision of the visa policy. According to him, the changes are aimed at making the visa more accessible in the coming weeks, which will help attract foreign investment and tourists to the country.
As a result of the reform, people from all over the world are expected to have easier access to Nigeria, which could boost the number of foreign passengers and as a result, economic growth and increased investment in the country.
