Mozambique has introduced mandatory ETAs for citizens of visa-free countries

Mozambique has introduced a mandatory electronic travel authorization (ETA) from April 2025 for citizens of 29 countries that do not require a visa. This authorization is a pre-registration that must be completed online no later than 48 hours before departure. The ETA is valid for three months from the date of approval. It is important to note that this is not a visa, but a notification of legal intent to enter the country.
To successfully enter the country, follow these steps:
- Complete the form no later than 48 hours before departure.
- Receive your ETA at the email address provided.
- Present your ETA (printed or electronic) upon arrival along with your passport and other required documents, such as:
- Tourists and business travelers must provide proof of accommodation, a return ticket, and proof of sufficient funds. For business trips, you must also present an invitation letter from the host organization.
You must also pay an administrative fee, which can be paid in local currency or in foreign currency accepted by the Mozambican authorities. Failure to pay the fee or not having an approved ETA may result in denial of boarding or entry into the country.
This new measure is aimed at improving security and simplifying entry procedures at Mozambique's borders. Failure to comply with the new entry requirements will be considered a violation of the country's immigration laws. Travelers are strongly advised to familiarize themselves with the new rules in advance and prepare for their trip to avoid unpleasant situations at the border.
