Mexico has increased access to autonomous migration filters (Filtros Migratorios Autónomos) for foreign tourists from 20 countries
Mexico has taken a significant step towards improving the entry process for foreign tourists by announcing the expansion of the Autonomous Migration Filters (FMA) system. Previously, this system was only available to citizens of Mexico, Canada, Spain and the United States.
With the recent changes, travelers from the following countries can now use automated self-service kiosks at Mexico City and Cancun international airports, as well as at San Jose del Cabo, Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta airports:
Using the Filtros Migratorios Autónomos system will significantly speed up the process of entering the country. In order to use the self-entry system, several conditions must be met: have a biometric passport valid for more than 180 days, be over 18 years of age, have an exclusively tourist purpose for the visit and not travel with minors.
It is important to note that foreign nationals who are residents of Mexico or entering on a temporary residence visa are not advised to use FMA offices, as this may result in the revocation of their immigration status.
The process of passing through immigration control using FMA is simple and quick. Passengers need to find the appropriate kiosk, open their passport at the photo page, place it in the scanner and pass through a gateway where a photo will be taken for verification. Once the biographic and biometric data has been verified, the passenger will receive a ticket with a QR code and digital stamp, which must be scanned to download a multiple migration form. This form can be completed anywhere within 90 days of arrival.
The FMA system is free and does not require pre-registration, making it available to all eligible travelers. It meets high security standards and protects personal information. The introduction of this technology is expected to significantly reduce waiting times in queues, which in turn will make tourists' stay in Mexico more comfortable and enjoyable.
