Mauritania launched e-visas from January for foreign nationals
Mauritania is actively embracing digitalization in its immigration processes by launching an e-visa system. This innovation eliminates the need for visa stickers and personal visits to embassies. Travelers can now easily apply for e-visas through the country's official website, which greatly simplifies the process of obtaining entry permits.
Applicants will be able to choose the validity period of their e-visa for 30, 60 or 90 days. It is also necessary to specify the desired number of entries into the country (single entry, double entry or multiple entries) and the date of arrival. When applying, you will need to provide personal details, contact information and indicate the purpose of your visit, whether it be tourism, business, family, medical treatment or participation in cultural and sporting events. To complete the process, you will need to upload a passport-sized photograph and a scanned copy of your passport, which must be valid for at least six months from the date of arrival.
While most nationals of countries are required to apply for an e-visa to travel to Mauritania, there are exceptions. Citizens of Algeria, Burkina Faso, Chad, Côte d'Ivoire, the Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Libya, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Tunisia and Chad are exempt from the visa requirement.
This new system aims to reduce border delays and simplify immigration procedures, including the collection of biometric data at points of entry to speed up the process. The introduction of e-visas will not only increase border security, but will also make the visa process more convenient and accessible for all travelers.
