Kenya cancels visas for all visitors
Kenyan President William Ruto has announced the cancellation of visas for all visitors from January 2024. It will now be necessary to obtain a visa to enter Kenya as the government has introduced a digital platform. This innovative system ensures that all visitors will be able to obtain permission to enter the country electronically in advance, thus eliminating the need to apply for a visa.
The President made the announcement during an event marking the 60th anniversary of Kenya's independence from Britain in the capital Nairobi. William Ruto has long been in favour of visa-free travel to the African continent. At a conference in the Republic of Congo in October, he said that by the end of 2023, African citizens would not need a visa to visit Kenya.
The initiative is strategic for the development of the tourism industry, which plays a key role in the country's economy. Kenya attracts tourists with its picturesque beaches on the Indian Ocean coast and exciting wildlife safaris in the country. President Ruto concluded his speech with a message of welcome to humanity: "Kenya has a simple message to humanity: Welcome Home!"
