India unveils updated e-visa design
From October 29, tourists and business travelers from 172 countries eligible for e-Visa to enter India will be able to avail the new version of Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). India has redesigned its electronic visa (e-Visa) and modernized its rules for international travelers.
It is important to note that holders of the old ETA/e-Visa version will be able to present the previous format at the time of entry into the country without any problem. They can also download the updated version if they wish. The e-Visa for India is available for tourist, business and medical travel.
The new e-Visa/ETA has enhanced elements that will speed up the process of entering the country and minimize risks at checkpoints for travelers.
What has changed?
The electronic travel authorization has an updated look and feel, the information is laid out on 2 sheets and contains the following information:
- The type of ETA authorization you have requested. For example: “ETA for Tourist e-Visa for 30 days”, means you have an electronic authorization to issue a 30-day visa when entering India.
- Application ID details: The 12-digit alphanumeric code corresponding to your e-permit application.
- The status of your application “APPROVED”, ETA authorization number and date of issue.
- Personal information as well as information about the e-visa fee paid.
- A photograph of your passport and a QR code for Indian immigration officials.
- General visa clarification information, which includes e-visa issuance and expiration dates and other data that allows you to properly use the ETA to obtain an Indian visa upon entry into the country.
- Important information and instructions for ETA holders.
In summary, when entering India on a pre-approved e-permit, travelers receive an e-visa that exactly matches the visa type applied for and approved. Please note that having an ETA authorization is not a guarantee of entry into India. The final decision is made by the Border Security Officer.
