From December 15, 2024, foreign nationals in Slovakia will be able to submit immigration applications online
The Slovak Ministry of Interior has announced significant changes to the Law on the Residence of Foreign Nationals that will come into force on December 15, 2024. The new rules will allow applicants to use a digital platform to apply for renewal of temporary residence permits, to obtain passports, to renew the EU Blue Card, and to apply for indefinite and long-term residence permits. These changes will significantly simplify the immigration process, making it more accessible and eliminating the need for personal visits to migration services for most procedures.
It is important to note that foreign nationals who apply for a residence document online and are required to provide biometric data will still have to report to a police station within 30 days. In such cases, the deadline for issuing the document will start counting from the time the biometric information is collected.
It is expected that the new system will not only speed up the application process, but also save time and effort for foreign nationals by eliminating the need for multiple visits to immigration authorities. The introduction of the digital platform will be an important step towards modernizing the immigration system and improving customer service.
