Ecuador introduces e-visa system: a new step towards convenience and accessibility
From June 2024, Ecuador will implement a new system for e-visas and apostilles, which will simplify many procedures that previously required visits to consular or regional offices. This innovation is intended to improve the quality of service for both locals and foreign visitors.
Pablo Sebastián Martínez Menduño, Coordinator of Technology at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced the imminent elimination of outdated procedures and their centralization thanks to a new information system. This system will eliminate the need to go to consulates in person, allowing visa applications to be submitted and processed directly in Quito.
Gabriela Sommerfeld, Ecuador's Minister of Foreign Affairs, emphasized that now a visit to a consulate is required to apply for a tourist visa, but starting in June 2024, the entire process will be done online through the Ministry's website. The new e-visa system will comply with Ecuadorian regulations and will make the visa process much easier, contributing to the development of the country.
Currently, citizens of most countries, including European countries, do not require a visa to enter Ecuador for up to 90 days. However, you must have a passport that expires no earlier than six months after entry. A tourist visa allows you to stay in the country for up to 90 days in accordance with the regulations in force.
Citizens of certain countries must obtain a visa to visit Ecuador
In addition, to visit the Galapagos Islands, all foreign nationals must apply for a transit control card in advance on the official website of the Galapagos Islands Council. Information about the flight and the place of residence must be indicated. After that, it will be possible to complete the check-in at the airports of Quito or Guayaquil. When arriving at the islands, it is necessary to present an identification document and pay 20 USD for the card issuance.
