Australia has always been known for its opportunities for foreign workers, and 2025 offers even more options for skilled professionals, young adventurers and seasonal workers. With an updated immigration policy, the country aims to not only attract talent from around the world, but also to meet the growing needs of the local labor market.

As of 2024, Australia has enacted significant changes to various work visa categories that will take effect in 2025.

The main changes to the work visa categories are:

  • Temporary Skills Shortage visa (subclass 482):

In December 2024, the TSS visa will be replaced by a new Skills in Demand (SID) visa. This visa will include three areas: specialized, core and key skills. Work experience requirements will be reduced from two years to one year to simplify the visa process.

  • Employer Nominee Program Visa (ENS, subclass 186):

SID visa holders will be able to transition to permanent residence through the temporary residence transition stream after two years of employment.

  • Work and Holiday Visa (subclasses 417 and 462):

UK nationals are exempt from certain requirements for second and third working tourist visas from July 2024. For applicants from China, India and Vietnam, a voting process has been introduced to manage demand for these visas.

  • Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485):

From July 2024, the maximum age to apply for this visa has been reduced from 50 to 35 years old, this will allow more young professionals the opportunity to work in Australia.

Other work visa categories:

Other Australian work visas will also be available in 2025 for skilled workers from around the world, but specific policy changes for 2024/2025 have not yet been announced: temporary work visa (short-term specialist) (subclass 400), temporary activity visa (subclass 408), skilled independent specialist visa (subclass 189), nominated specialist visa (subclass 190), training visa (subclass 407).

All categories of work visas provide foreign professionals with the opportunity not only to work in Australia, but also to develop their skills and establish permanent residency in the country.

If you are planning to apply for a visa in 2025, carefully consider the new rules and the opportunities they offer. Seek professional advice: researching immigration policies can be a daunting task. Consulting with a professional immigration counselor will make the process easier and help you avoid mistakes.

These updates represent a huge opportunity for professionals and adventurers looking to start a new chapter of their life in Australia.
