Visa for Ethiopia
The Ethiopia visa is an electronic travel authorization for tourists. It is important to carefully read the guidelines and notices provided at each step of the application form. Do I need a visa to Ethiopia?
Citizens of all countries of the world are eligible for a tourist visa.
Persons with dual nationality must choose the nationality corresponding to the passport to be used for travel.
Citizens holding a tourist, work or investment visa may request an extension before the visa expires. If you wish to extend your visa for between 1 and 15 days, this can be done online. For extensions longer than 15 days, extensions can only be processed by visiting the Immigration and Nationality Service main office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in person. Citizens who remain in the country after the visa expires without an extension are subject to fines and penalties. Journalist and conference visas cannot be extended.
Please note that business visas are only issued from the age of 18. Parents traveling on a business visa apply for a tourist visa for their children.
The validity of the Ethiopian e-visa starts from the date of entry into Ethiopia, not the date of issuance.
The passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into Ethiopia.
The application fee for e-visa is non-refundable.
For African nationals who are unable to make the online payment for the e-visa, the option to apply online and pay in cash upon arrival at Bole Addis Ababa International Airport is available.
Effective November 18, 2020, credit card payments will not be accepted from applicants from the following countries:
Crimean region of Ukraine
Syrian Arab Republic
